Mid-day Mentoring volunteer, PepsiCo.

Amy reading with Tiesha

WITS had the pleasure of catching up with Amy Sanders, a School-Day Mentoring volunteer.  Amy volunteers with her company, Quaker Pepsi Co., and reads with Tiesha from Jenner Elementary once a week.  Amy is now in her fifth year as a WITS volunteer!

The duo took a break from reading to chat with a WITS staff member:

What were you for Halloween?
T: Cinderella.
A: Myself!  I have a Halloween sweater that I always wear.  It has lots of pumpkins, ghosts, and candy corn on it.
If you could describe Tiesha in ONE word, what would it be?
A: Tiesha is very sweet and friendly.  She works really hard on her reading and has improved tremendously over the last year.  Oops, you said one word...Sweet.

If you could be any storybook character, who would you be?
T: I'd be Cat Woman.
If you could read anywhere together, where would it be?
A: In a big chair in front of a fire with snow falling outside and a mug of hot chocolate on the table next to us.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
T: I want to be a teacher because I like to learn.
What do you love most about reading with WITS?
T: Amy makes me feel happy and special because she's here every week.
A: Getting to know Tiesha, sharing my life with her, and seeing her become a better reader.
WITS is incredibly grateful for Amy's continued dedication as a volunteer.  Her passion and guidance are directly impacting Chicago's youth.  To find out ways you can be involved with WITS, check out our various programs and read to a child today!
