White Sox Player Carlos Quentin Reads with

Power Lunch Classroom

Bridgeport Students Meet White Sox Player

WHO: Chicago White Sox outfielder, Carlos Quentin, joins Working in the Schools (WITS) at McClellan Elementary School for an afternoon of reading, playing fun activities, and engaging in conversation. Carlos, and his wife, Jeane, actively participate in promoting children's literacy and education-centered issues. Additionally, they support White Sox volunteers who read with McClellan students each week, providing vital one-on-one attention and tutoring.

WHAT: A lunchtime literacy and mentorship program, Power Lunch is the signature
offering for our corporate and community partners. Pairing elementary students
with business professionals provides them with necessary support and encouragement while promoting a love of reading and learning. Volunteers make a one year commitment, meeting weekly with their students. The student-mentor pairs meet for forty-five minutes to read aloud, work on fluency and reading comprehension, share stories, and discuss books.

ABOUT WITS: Working in the Schools is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes literacy and the love of reading among Chicago's youth by providing one-on-one tutoring and mentoring.
