Junior Board
The Junior Board was developed in October 2000 with four main objectives: operate as a self sustaining Board of WITS; support WITS policies, staff and Board of Directors; create new programs and initiatives for fundraising purposes and community visibility; and assist WITS in achieving fundraising goals.
The original vision has truly come to life over the past ten years. The Junior Board's annual Blackboard Affair events have raised nearly $300,000 to support the WITS mission and, in 2003, the Program Committee launched the Saturday Program.
Partnering with Chicago Public Schools, Junior Board members and friends read one-on-one with students at Walsh Elementary and Peabody Elementary on Saturdays for an entire school year. This past year's program experienced its great growth, with more than 70 tutors and 40 students in the program.
There are more than 45 members of the WITS Junior Board whose membership responsibilities include:
• Quarterly meeting attendance
• Support volunteer programs
• Committee Participation
• Annual membership contribution
• Support special events and fundraising efforts
