How did you become involved with WITS?
Through my good friend, Jamie Garard, who has been an enthusiastic and dedicated board member and tutor.
Have you seen a WITS program in action? If so, what was that experience like for you?
I have visited a grammar school where I got to see the early childhood program in action. The children were very enthusiastic as they waited for their turn to spend some time with their new friend (and volunteer) who would read with them and shower them with individual attention. I saw the school teachers and administrators who appreciated the support that WITS volunteers brought to the school and created an air of excitement throughout the classroom. The program clearly created goals that the children look forward to.
Why do you choose to support WITS?
I believe every individual has the potential to do great things. The focused time and attention that WITS provides is a step toward communicating that possibility. Reading is fundamental to an educated society. Starting children on the path towards literacy is critically important. WITS is a brilliant idea that augments classroom activity and provides additional emphasis on the importance and joy of reading. And the possibility that the children also get another role model in their life is a great secondary benefit of the program.
WITS thanks Phil for his continued generosity and greatly appreciates his enthusiastic support. We encourage our supporters to visit any of our programs and welcome the opportunity for you to see WITS IN ACTION!
