Charitable Program Helps Gift Low-Income Children a Book for Holidays
Chicago, IL, November 5, 2009 -- Two Chicago Barnes & Noble stores have selected Working in the Schools (WITS) as a beneficiary of its Holiday Book Drive. From November 1 to January 1, 2010, shoppers can choose to donate books for WITS' underserved children. The city's Barnes & Noble stores are locationed at the 1130 N. State Street and 1441 W. Webster Ave.
On December 12, the Holiday Book Fair event will donate up to 20% of retail sales and 100% of tips given at the gift wrapping station. Gift wrapping volunteers will be joined by children's authors and lead child-friendly arts and crafts.
Topping off the festivities, at 11 a.m. the father of famous make-up artist Bobbi Brown, Joe Brown will present his children's book "The Flights of Marceau: Race to the Rescue." A Native of Lincolnwood, IL and Chicago attorney for fifty years, Brown began his Marceau series after reiring at age 70. Now Brown's stories about a New York City cab driver, tales he once told ot his own children, have come to life on the page.
The book fair activities will run from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the Webster Avenue store site. WITS will use donations to help children receive a book to take home for the holiday season.
